Zane Grey is the author of over 100 Westerns and children's books. According to John Bane and Minnie Woodring of South Pass, Wyoming, Zane Grey lived in a little trailer at South Pass for a summer preceding the publication of these two books. It was from his excursions and explorations of the area and his long conversations with John Bane that he gathered the background for these stories.
