Instructions for Formatting a New Author Page
*Print this page
Basic and Contact Information
- First, click the "Create a Page" button. You will be asked to name the new page. The name of the new page should be the author's name, first name and then last name. The Wiki will not allow punctuation marks in a page name, so you may include initials, but not periods after them. Go to the bottom of the page and select the "Author Page Template". Then go back to the top of the page and click "Create page." You may now edit the copy of the new author page.
- Replace the template text with the author's information.
- Provide as much residency and contact information as you know about the author.
Biographical and Professional Information
- Write a short (100-150 word) bio about the author's life and work. Be sure to explain in the bio how the author is tied to Wyoming, especially if he or she does not currently hold residence in Wyoming.
Genres
- Then, select the genres that the author writes in. Do this by deleting the names of the genres that the author does NOT write in.
Titles
- Next, provide the author's titles chronologically, beginning with the most recent. Check the Author Inclusion Standards to verify that a title meets the requirements for inclusion on the new author's page. Please provide all of the information requested for each title, including original publication year, location and name of publisher, and ISBN number. If the author has more than four titles, simply copy the title template as many times as you need to.
- If you would like to include more information about a title, or a short description of the title, add that information directly after the ISBN number. You may link to other author pages.
Speaking Engagements
- Provide information regarding whether or not the author accepts speaking engagements, whether or not the author generally charges a fee, and who people should contact to book a speaking engagement with the author.
Preview and Save the Page
- Once you have filled in the new author page, click on the Preview button to see what the page you have just created will look like, and if you need to make any adjustments or additions to the page. If you are satisfied with the page, click on the Save button, and the new author page will be created in the wiki.
Make the Author Searchable by Genre
- Once you are looking at the saved new author page that you have just created, you will need to click on each genre link on the page and edit that genre page to include the author's name, so that the author may be searchable by genre in the wiki. Do this by clicking on the Edit button on the genre page, and adding the name of the new author in its appropriate alphabetical location with brackets around it to create a link to the author's page. Click the Preview button to preview the page to make sure it looks accurate, then Save it. Click on the link to the author's page to go back, and click on the name of the next genre the author writes in, if there is more than none. Repeat the steps above to include that author's name on the page for each genre he or she should be listed under.
Add the Author to the Alphabetical Author Listing Page
- Then, return to the Home page. Click on the authors link to add the new author's name to the alphabetical listing of authors who are included in the wiki. To do this, click on the Edit button on the authors page, add the name of the new page in its appropriate alphabetical location (with brackets around it to create a link to the author's page), Preview the page and then Save it.
Make the Author Searchabe by Wyoming County of Residence
- Return to the Home page again. Click on the county link and Edit that page so that the author's name appears under his or her current Wyoming county of residence. Preview and then Save the page.
Provide Information about the Author's Upcoming Appearances
- You may also edit the Book Events page (linked to in the SideBar on the Home page) to tell other Wyoming Authors Wiki viewers about when and where they can go to see an author.
Adding pictures
- If you'd like, you can add a picture of yourself or of your book covers. Read the instructions HERE.
Congratulations! You have now successfully created and integrated the new author's record into the Wyoming Authors Wiki.
