Biographical and Professional Information

 

George Frison is professor emeritus of anthropology at the University of Wyoming. He was born in Worland, Wyoming, in 1924 and left college at the University of Wyoming to join the Navy during World War II. He ranched for several years in Ten Sleep, Wyoming, before returning to UW in 1962, and received a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Michigan by 1967. He was immediately appointed head of the UW department of anthropology and Wyoming's first state archaeologist. Dr. Frison has been a part of many pretigious associations and has received numerous awards, including an appointment to the National Academy of Sciences in 1997.
