Biographical and Professional Information
Barbara Windom Costopoulos was born in Wheatland in 1935, the daughter of Dale C. and Mildred (Honey) Meglemre Windom. Her father was transferred to Lusk in 1940 where Barbara was raised. She has lived in Guernsey since 1969.
Barbara is a fourth generation Wyomingite; great grandfather Wilde homesteaded on the Laramie River. Her mother Mildred was born in 1904, on the Laramie River at the old Scissor Ranch. These homesteads and others lie beneath the waters of the Grayrocks Dam, which prompted the history of these ranches in Nine Miles on the Laramie River.
Sunrise Silhouettes/Shadows from the Shafts was written as an historical record using photo albums belonging to her husband Nick and Gaylord Miller. Nick was raised in Sunrise, which hosted the largest iron ore mine west of the Mississippi River until 1980. With Nick’s death in December of 2003 the Sunrise book became a solo effort for Barbara; published in June 2006.
