Anita Bartholdi was born on September 7, 1946, in Rockford, Illinois. She spent time in childhood in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and received a degree in education from Seattle University. She completed post-graduate work at Seattle University and Western Washington University. She hastaught school, worked as a biology research assistant at Seattle University, tutored children with dyslexia and taught piano. She is married to John Ledbetter, and they have two sons, Jim and Wayne.
